A pre-concert jam sesh by the members of Philly hip-hop conglomerate Ill Doots.

Building on the model laid down by their hometown predecessors The Roots, this 12 member band has gone from a dorm room studio project to regional tours.

Coming from varied musical backgrounds, the groups many talented musicians have a distinct funk and jazz feel which Ill Doots’ two emcees flow over with ease.

Don’t let their jazzy background fool you though, these guys know how to get down and set the crowd off on command.

The group will be performing tonight at Pittsburgh’s Shadow Lounge.

Avicii - Round Two

Tonight I’m heading to Pittsburgh’s CONSOL Energy Center to see Swedish sensation Avicii. After seeing the popular DJ just a few months ago this past winter, I wasn’t planning on paying for yet another expensive ticket, but a salesman at last week’s Girl Talk show changed my mind.

"Ten bucks straight up to see Avicii next Thursday," said the man behind the booth just inside the gates of Pittsburgh’s newest concert hall - Stage AE. Without any hesitation I approached the vendor and handed him a ten dollar bill.

Needless to say, I’m excited to see what Avicii has up his sleeve for this show. As far as house music goes, this guy is one of the best, but sometimes house music gets a little repetitive if you’re not a die-hard electro fan. However, Avicii has recently let loose a slew of tracks (including his newest hit Silhouettes which has already racked up a few million views on YouTube) and seems to be on a tear with some new-found motivation.

While this show may not be as hot as Kevin Durant in the 4th quarter, it looks like I’m in for a good time. The CONSOL holds 14,000 for "end-stage concerts" and I’m hoping the place is packed to the brim.

Round two…fight!
